The Centreville Town Council met May 7, 2026. Council approved the April 16 minutes, heard a citizen concern about a recent water study and proposed water plant expansion, and presented a proclamation recognizing Linda and Brent Carroll for 35 years organizing the Millstream Park Easter Egg Hunt. The Council unanimously approved a $2,000 contribution to the United States Colored Troops Memorial project after a presentation that reported a roughly $300,000 project cost and about $127,000 already raised. On ordinances, Council completed second readings of Ordinance 02‑2026 (Vacant Properties) — with a public hearing set for May 21 — and Ordinance 03‑2026 (allowing ground‑mounted solar arrays in R‑1 as a special exception) which was forwarded to the Planning Commission. Public Works recommended and Council awarded the three‑year municipal solid waste contract (without curbside recycling) to Bigg Tyme Trash LLC for $363,864.60 annually, and unanimously approved Maryland Environmental Service establishing a recycling drop‑off at the water tower property at no cost to the Town. First readings were held for the FY2027 budget (balanced with general fund capital requests of $78,120 and projected surpluses), Ordinance 05‑2026 to reduce Planning Commission membership, and Ordinance 06‑2026 imposing a temporary moratorium on approvals related to boarding houses, bed‑and‑breakfasts, and short‑term rentals pending zoning updates.
