Town Council — 2023-03-30

This is the Town of Centreville budget work session held March 30 (minutes show both 2022 and 2023 headers). Council and staff reviewed debt, insurance, software requests, and department budgets. The Council agreed by consensus to a phased debt-payoff approach (using interest earnings and replacing principal with incoming interest), approved the presented health insurance plan with a commitment to revisit policy and percentage cost-sharing after the new fiscal year, and approved creating a new Finance Office position while rejecting a proposed front-office administrative assistant. Other items: software requests were reduced to $55,660 with requests for clearer item descriptions; the Police budget showed a $326,589 increase and a request for an additional officer that the majority opposed (the Chief asked to reorganize and add a lieutenant); Streets noted a $60,000 Highway User Revenue increase and staff moved from Water/Wastewater; the Council declined to increase the donation to Goodwill Fire Company until the company presents to Council; park trail funds ($128,500) are encumbered and an RFP will be issued. The meeting opened and closed with no citizen comments and adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
