Town Council — 2023-01-19

The Centreville Town Council met January 19, 2023 at the Liberty Building. The Council held a closed session to consult with counsel about a legal matter involving a town property; no actions were taken in that session. The Council approved the January 5 minutes and later approved a police salary compression study payment of $9,254 with the expectation of returning to adjust the sworn employee career ladder. Three charter amendment resolutions were read: one on the Chief of Police reporting structure (Council debated revised language and reverted to the original version), one updating Merit System references to state language, and one codifying classified/unclassified service. Staff presented a FY2023 mid-year financial update, and the Council discussed automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) — Queen Anne’s County is applying for a grant that could include the Town, Council members were split on supporting the grant, and the topic will be revisited in two weeks. Council rules work was assigned to Vice President Kaiser and President Kline for discussion on February 2; the Council of Governments report noted Centreville hosted the January 9 meeting and that Queen Anne’s County is exploring detention center relocation and county discussions on Adequate Public Facility Ordinances (AFPOs).
