Town Council — 2023-01-05

The January 5, 2023 Centreville Town Council meeting was opened by Vice President Ashley Kaiser with four council members and key staff present; the Council unanimously approved the December 1, 2022 minutes and heard no citizen comments. The Council presented trophies to winners of the 2022 Christmas Tree Decorating Contest (Girl Scout Troops 226, 1423, 591) and the 2022 Christmas Parade (including Wye River Upper School as Best Overall and several category winners). Three charter-amendment resolutions were read and discussed: Resolution 01-2023 to revise the Chief of Police reporting structure (noting the Chief would report to the Town Manager and the Town Manager would hire the Chief in consultation with Council, and Council asked for alternative language addressing administrative vs. police-related reporting); Resolution 02-2023 to update merit system references to State office/regulations; and Resolution 03-2023 to codify the Town’s current unclassified/classified service practices. Reports were given: MML legislative priorities and initiatives; the Council of Governments meeting to be hosted Jan 9; Economic Development plans including a February Fireside Chat and the launch of the “Centreville Festivities and Beautification Team”; the Park Advisory Board noted a remaining Waterway Improvement Fund balance of $36,945.44 and discussed adding boat slips or using funds for design/permitting; and a Planning Commission public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan is scheduled for Jan 18.
