The July 21, 2022 Centreville Town Council meeting convened at 7:00 p.m.; the June 23 minutes were approved and Gene Magary was sworn to a three-year term on the Park Advisory Board. The council held a public hearing on Ordinance 07-2022 to amend the zoning definition of “Convenience Store” to allow up to 5,500 sq ft outside the Central Business District (CBD), while keeping the CBD limit under 2,000 sq ft; the Planning Commission had forwarded an unfavorable recommendation (3-2), the hearing drew multiple speakers both for and against, and the ordinance failed for lack of a motion to adopt. New items introduced included Resolution 04-2022 to amend the HRA retiree stipend (staff noted no current length-of-service requirement; Councilmember Kaiser said she will sponsor and prefers it not be retroactive) and Ordinance 10-2022 to correct code references (Councilmember Kiel to sponsor; Town Attorney to correct a requested supermajority wording). A contract lobbying services item sponsored by Councilmember Kaiser was introduced but the minutes are incomplete on action, and no citizens spoke during the forum.
