Town Council — 2022-03-17

The Town Council met March 17, 2022. The Council approved the March 3, 2022 minutes, heard a Main Street update about a $9,000 resiliency grant from the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development to fund a business resiliency workshop (speakers Megan McDonald, Kimberly Prescott, and Dale Walls) and purchasable technical services for town businesses, and introduced Samantha Smith as a new Department of Public Works administrative assistant. Eric Johnson, Jr. presented an assessment of the Liberty/Commerce street construction project and asked that the materials be posted to the Town website. The Council discussed a proposed moratorium on allocations and directed the Town Manager to contact Queen Anne’s County Administrator Todd Mohn to meet with the county’s lobbyist; members expressed that the moratorium should not prevent receiving or processing applications and that the Council should retain allocation decision authority. Rebecca Flora of ReMake Group presented an update on the Carter Farm public forum; Councilmembers thanked her and Eric Johnson said he will meet with the school superintendent about traffic concerns. Finance Officer Karen Luffman presented the FY2023 operating/capital budget for further review at upcoming budget work sessions.
