Town Council — 2021-05-20

The Centreville Town Council met May 20, 2021. They held public hearings on Ordinance 06-2021 (the proposed FY2022 budget) and the Constant Yield tax rate (proposed property tax rate $0.535 per $100 and a $13 public utility tax); the budget presentation will be mailed to residents and Ordinance 06-2021 will have a second reading on June 3, 2021. Public comment on the budget included speakers Royce Herman and Steve Quigley and several emailed comments; no one spoke in favor of the Constant Yield tax rate and no written comments were received on it. In business actions, the Council approved a three-year trash and recycling contract with Chesapeake Waste Industries, LLC for $903,888.24 (July 1, 2021–June 30, 2024) with two one-year renewal options (vote 4–1, Councilmember Kline opposed). The Council also unanimously increased the quarterly landfill fee to $48.50 per EDU for FY22 with an annual 3% increase thereafter. No new information was reported regarding 2021 fireworks.
