Town Council — 2021-01-21

The Centreville Town Council met January 21, 2021; the Council approved the January 7, 2021 minutes and received no citizen comments. Jennifer Moore, Director of the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society, updated the Council on Society work including Tucker House restoration (Maryland Historical Trust grant), façade grants, outdoor improvements at Wright’s Chance and Tucker House, a Smithsonian exhibit planned for June–July at the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center, a forthcoming “Voices & Votes” exhibit, and a county library digitization project; she also asked that demolition/renovation permits for properties 50+ years be shared so the Society can document those structures. Representatives of the Chesterfield Cemetery Advisory Committee reviewed their membership and monthly meeting schedule, requested a recurring, encumbered cemetery budget line item, and were asked to prepare 1-, 3-, 5- and 10-year budgets; they noted past fundraising paid for lane paving and that signage had been installed. A public hearing was held on Resolution 13-2020 (charter amendment revising how Council vacancies are filled); Town Attorney VanEmburgh explained the timing rationale for the change, no members of the public spoke for or against the resolution, the hearing adjourned at 7:50 p.m., and in Old Business Council President McCluskey read the resolution and Mr. Kline made a motion to approve (minutes cut off thereafter).
