Town Council — 2020-02-06

This is the Town Council work session on February 6, 2020 focused on discolored water at the North Brook water treatment plant. The Maryland Department of the Environment required the Town to hire an engineering firm; McCrone Engineering was selected to evaluate the plant and its operations and will review the Town’s daily and monthly reports. Town staff sampled filter media and recommended replacing it, have been exploring newer arsenic testing methods (readings <4 ppb), sequestering chemicals, and changes to recycle rates including pricing for equipment to adjust timing. MDE staff reported the Town has had no violations and explained hydrant flushing; the Council and staff noted few citizen reports of discolored water and agreed to add a notice to utility bills asking residents to call Town Hall when they see discolored water. The Council requested a follow-up work session once McCrone completes their study and asked for at least one week’s notice before that meeting.
