Planning Commission — 2021-01-20

The Centreville Planning Commission met January 20, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.; members, staff and Town Council representatives attended and the Commission welcomed new member Tim Zuella. The Commission approved the December 16, 2020 minutes as amended and heard a citizen comment from Dan Worth. In new business the Town Planner discussed possible zoning text amendments for accessory buildings — issues raised included location, square footage, height, compatibility with design standards, a concern that an accessory structure can now be built 3 feet from the property line, and an existing building-coverage limit noted in the Zoning Ordinance; the Planner will prepare a draft amendment for future discussion. The Commission also reviewed Ordinance 11-2020 (museums in residential zones): museums are currently not permitted in residential zones, parking standards exist, and the Planner will draft two options — allow museums in R-3 by special exception and create institutional-use standards for non–single-family residential units in R-1, R-2 and R-3 (considering bufferyards and lot sizes). The Commission set Comprehensive Plan work sessions for March 3, April 7 and May 5; Council noted two alternate vacancies on the Commission. The meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m.
