Parks & Recreation — 2021-09-07

The Park Advisory Board met September 7, 2021; Chair Mike Whitehill called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m. and members present were Whitehill, Secretary Sandy Simpson, and Gene Magary. There was no quorum, so the May 4, 2021 minutes were deferred. Project updates: Wharf Park deck renovation has started and lights and a swing set remain to be installed; Whitehill will draft an RFP for designs for three pavilions at the Wharf. Pop Taylor Park perennial vines were not replaced this year. The proposed Carter Farm development (owned by Chesterfield LLC) would include an eight-foot-wide trail around the perimeter and will require the Parks Board and Town Council to endorse a variance with the Critical Area Commission; the MC Ventures project will include a sidewalk and asphalt path connection to the trail. Whitehill is trying to preserve or obtain portions of old rails prior to the Rails-to-Trails auction and showed a community plan map of potential rail sites; members were asked to bring projects they endorse to the next meeting. An Eagle Scout bench project was listed on the agenda but the chair said he was not aware of it; there were no citizen comments, no appearances, no reports, no action items, and the meeting adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
