Parks & Recreation — 2021-05-04

The Park Advisory Board met via Zoom on May 4, 2021; Chair Mike Whitehill called the meeting to order, the April 6 minutes were approved, and there were no citizen comments or appearances. Updates included the Wharf boardwalk construction (with added steps and an additional power tower funded by Maryland DNR) and relocation of the boat pump-out station from South Pocket Park to the boardwalk, landscaping at pocket parks, and an unresolved water drainage issue at the Millstream Park pavilion (water spout still turned off). The Board reviewed the Arbor Day celebration where Nellie Stevens holly trees were planted to honor Jack and Nancy Covert (trees donated by Art Shuster) and reported Town Clerk publicity and student participation. New items: Whitehill is pursuing a portion of old railroad rails being auctioned by MDOT/Maryland Transit Authority, Councilman Robert Hardy raised interest in revisiting a dog park, and the Board learned Green Development LLC (Carter Farm) proposes no trail; the Board voted unanimously to draft a letter to Town Council recommending the developer include a trail. The Board set the next meeting for June 1, 2021 at Millstream Park pavilion (weather permitting) and adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
