Parks & Recreation — 2020-09-01

The Park Advisory Board met on September 1, 2020 at Wharf Park (101 Watson Road). Members approved the March 3, 2020 minutes, took a walking tour of Centreville Wharf Park, and reviewed multiple grant-funded projects: a proposed grant for a bandshell, parking lot paving, lights, sidewalk, curb and gutter; funds received for light towers at each finger pier to provide electric and water; bollard lights along the boardwalk; a Waterway Improvement Fund grant to replace decking on the boardwalk and finger piers; and a Community Parks and Playgrounds grant to install three ADA-accessible picnic pavilions (tables, grills, water, electric). The board heard that the Corsica River and boat slips will be dredged and that phragmites on two lots across Watson Road will be removed as part of the County dredging project. Town Council did not approve extending Southeast Lawn and Landscape’s maintenance contract for the Wharf Park, so the Department of Public Works is handling maintenance for now. Rich Ryan was sworn in to a three-year term and the board re-elected Mike Whitehill as Chair, Priscilla Mileski as Vice Chair, and Sandy Simpson as Secretary; the next meeting was set for October 6, 2020 at the Millstream Park Pavilion.
