B. Procedures
1. Personal Appearance of Employees
a. Officers who are attending court as representatives of the CPD will wear the uniform of the day or appropriate business attire consistent with his duty assignment, unless otherwise directed by his supervisor.
b. Officers who are not attending court as representatives of the CPD will not wear the uniform.
c. All employees will maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
2. Notifications
a. An officer will notify dispatch via radio and request that a CAD incident is initiated for his court attendance.
b. An officer should arrive at court approximately 15 minutes before his scheduled appearance and make contact with court personnel if necessary.
c. The officer will not leave until the conclusion of the case, unless given permission by the State's Attorney or the court.
d. An on-duty officer will report to his duty assignment and complete his shift when his court appearance is complete.
3. Lateness
a. The officer will appear in court on time and be prepared for trial.
(1) If will be late, he will ask the duty officer to notify the State’s Attorney’s office or the court.

(2) The officer will provide his estimated time of arrival and reason for the delay
4. Subpoenas
a. When an employee is subpoenaed or summoned to appear in two different courts at the same time, he will notify the State's Attorney in each court to resolve the conflict.
2. If the employee is unable to resolve the conflict, he will notify his supervisor.
5. Witness Fees and Allowances
a. Employees providing testimony in civil or criminal court relative to work performed for the CPD will be compensated by the CPD.
b. If an employee provides testimony in civil or criminal court and it is not relevant to CPD business, the CPD will not compensate the employee.
6. Pre-Trial Preparation
a. The employee will carefully review his notes shortly before appearing in court, to insure that events about which he may testify are fresh in his mind.
b. When required, an employee will bring to court:
(1) all notes he took during the investigation, which are subject to review by the court and the
defense attorney;
(2) all reports generated from the case; and
(3) any physical evidence.
c. The prosecuting attorney may arrange an interview with the officer before the trial; if this does not happen, the officer may request a meeting if he believes it will benefit the case.
d. Officers should be familiar with the basic rules of evidence and seek clarification prior to the trial about any legal issues about which they are concerned.
7. Courtroom Testimony
a. An officer will provide testimony in court in a manner that is consistent with his training and experience.
