Chief of Police A. Purpose To emphasize the commitment of the CPD to unbiased policing and the equitable treatment of all persons.
B. Policy The CPD strictly forbids bias based policing in all aspects of its law enforcement activities.
C. Bias-Based Policing
1. Any type of law enforcement action or enforcement undertaken by a member of the CPD shall not be
based on race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, disability or religion.
2. The selection of an individual or group of individuals for enforcement action shall not be based on race,
ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, disability or religion.
3. CPD sworn personnel will not participate in the use of any bias-based profiling as a cause for stopping,
detaining or searching any person or group of persons.
4. Bias based policing cannot and will not be utilized by individual CPD personnel or law enforcement
agencies and officers operating in concert with or under the direction of the CPD as a consideration in determining whether to take law enforcement action or enforcement.
5. Nothing in this policy statement precludes officers from relying upon, as part of a description, where a
specific suspect is sought, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, disability or religion Page 1 of 2 D. Citizen Contact – Prohibited Activities
1. A Centreville Police Officer, in the course, of performing law enforcement functions, shall not solicit, for
personal gain, personal information from the citizenry or provide personal information of himself, which could reasonably be construed as using his position as an officer for personal gain or personal reasons.
2. During any officer-violator contact, an officer will not solicit personal information from any violator,
vehicle driver or vehicle occupant for any reason other than that which would be reasonably required for law enforcement purposes.
